BRITAIN'S OLDEST TWINS CELEBRATE MILESTONE BIRTHDAY

A new year is always a time to celebrate. But two people in Britain have a special reason for celebration. Britain's oldest twins Betty Richards and Jenny Pelmore celebrated their 100th birthday and received their telegram from the Queen today.

The sisters are both still driving and have lived to see five different monarchs on the throne. Living proof that you are never too old to learn, the twins took Spanish lessons at the age of 97 to keep their minds active! The sisters say their secret to a long life is to, "just keep smiling and keep going" and to have a "healthy mind and a healthy body". Happy Birthday to both of them!

Britain's oldest man, Henry Allingham, a First World War veteran, celebrated his 111th birthday in June. Amazing!

That IS amazing! I have a great aunt who is 95. I see her every Christmas and Easter. She still gets together with her "girlfriends".

Yes it is wonderful that healthcare has advanced so much, people are living so much longer nowadays Sharon. My dad's grandmother grew up on a farm, lived off the land and had no central heating, yet she was hearty as a hare and lived to 98. Amazing!
