I was interested to read that specially trained bees are now being used to sniff out drugs and terrorist bombs. They are contained within a shoebox sized boxed device and taught to respond to certain smells. Apparently when they detect certain smells they stick out their “tongues” and this is registered on a computer. Experts say it takes only a matter of minutes to train the bees, who are rewarded for their efforts with sugar water. Clever stuff!
