BRITAIN SUFFERS WORST FLOODS IN HISTORY

As heavy rain continues to sweep across the country, Britain is suffering the worst floods for 60 years. Thousands of people are still being evacuated from their homes as water levels continue to rise in rivers across the south of England and the Midlands. The current floods are the worst in the history of Britain with the River Thames in Oxfordshire and River Severn in Gloucestershire perilously high. Thousands of homes have been left without power and clean water.

Scientists are linking the severe weather conditions to global warming. Their argument is that as the earth heats up, it creates more moisture in the air which leads to heavier rainfall. Meanwhile severe flood warnings remain in place as yet more rain is forecast.

I thought about you and Ruth when I saw this on the news. I hope you and yours are OK!

Thanks Rosemary. Myself and my family were very lucky as we live in the North of England. The South is unfortunately the worst hit at this time.

Not sure about the global warming theory, these kind of floods happen (apparently) at least once within every hundred years for anyone who lives within reach of a watercourse - at least that's what a flood defence expert/consultant who randomly turned up at one of my churches told me last week...

Yes, I thought about you too. I am glad you are safe.

I'm glad to hear you are safe and dry. I've been reading other blogs who are blogging about the weather there. It's sad to hear so many people are being evacuated. I guess it's for the best. Hope sunnier days are coming soon.

I think there are a lot of theories going round Alastair as to what caused the heavy rain and terrible floods. Unfortunately though it doesn't help the poor people who have lost their lives and homes.

Thanks Sheila. Yes I'm one of the lucky ones. Some areas in the South of England have been very badly hit. My heart goes out to those poor people.

Glad to hear that you are OK! Not sure in the Warming theory either, these things are cyclical. We're in a severe drought here. Lakes are rivers are running well below normal.

Glad to hear that you and your family are safe.

While it is flooding in places like Southern England and Texas, we are in a drought here in Southern California.

Although it did "sprinkle" really hard the day before yesterday when my "mum" and I were trimming our rose tree!

Naomi are you entering a post for the BLOG VILLAGE Recreation Carnival? Hope to see you there!

Thanks Gatekeeper, Gary and Janey for your kind thoughts. We can only hope that better drier weather is on the way. I was surprised you were suffering drought conditions in the States. The weather seems to be changing the world over.

Yes Janey I'll be there at the Blog Village Carnival. I've already sent my post across.
