MAKE A DR'S APPOINTMENT VIA YOUR TV

Oh the wonders of modern technology! I was interested to hear that it may soon be possible to make a doctor’s appointment via your tv set! A pilot scheme is going to be running in some areas of the country, where people can access the same appointments screen as their doctor’s receptionist via a special password put into their digital tv box. Appointments can also be re-arranged and cancelled and all at the touch of a button!

The initial results of a trial of the scheme in Yorkshire look promising. It drastically cut the number of missed appointments. If successful, the scheme is set to be adopted by over a thousand GP’s surgeries around the country. In the future, patients will also be able to order repeat prescriptions through their tv too. What a brilliant idea!

I never visit them anymore. It's amazing when you don't have medical insurance/ medical aid how you never seem to need them anymore LOL

You have been awarded The Rockin' Girl Blogger Award http://thevegandiet.blogspot.com/2007/07/award-meme-and-pies.html

Sounds amazing - it's hard enough trying to get a Dr's appointment on the good old telephone at the moment...

This is interesting. I recently saw Michael Moore's movie Sicko. He shot footage in Great Britain too about your health care system. I'm wondering, Naomi, are you happy with the system? Some Americans seem to think whatever we do is the best. Moore asked at the end of the movie, why can't we adopt new systems and ways of doing things if they are better. My problem is that I don't always know who to believe. Our politics are so manipulated by corporate interests and television news reports are so shallow.

I must admit I don't visit the Doctor very often myself Jackie. I definitely think eating a healthy diet and taking supplements helps a lot.

Thanks for the award. That's very kind of you.

I quite agree Alastair. Hopefully the new system will work a lot better. Fingers crossed!

Hi Sheila

No very few people in this country are happy with the healthcare system (NHS as we call it). It's a shame because it used to be one of the best in the world but unfortunately lack of funding and resources have caused it to fall down. When I was in hospital myself a few years ago, I saw a lot of dedicated staff working hard but struggling on limited resources. Basically the NHS needs a lot of money and hard work to get it back on its feet again. Hopefully this will be one of the top priorities on Gordon Brown's "To Do List".
