DIABETES REACHING EPIDEMIC LEVEL IN U.K.

Growing levels of obesity in the U.K. are thought to be responsible for the sharp rise in the number of people being diagnosed with Diabetes. Diabetes U.K. is warning of an epidemic as new figures show the number of people being diagnosed with Diabetes has risen by about 70,000 in the past year alone. Around 80% of the people diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes are overweight. The figures also show that over 750,000 people are suffering from Diabetes and don’t realise it. Frightening!

I have Diabetes on both sides of my family. My dad suffered from it and also my maternal grandmother, so I know I could be at risk of developing it in the future. Also suffering from polycystic ovary syndrome puts me in a high risk group too. As a result I’m more conscious of my own diet and health. To see if you are at risk of developing Diabetes, you can take the two minute, “Measure Up” test by going to:-

good post naomi. It is quite serious, and people often forget that one's weight and diet have far reaching effects...

They certainly do Rick. Obesity mainly caused by bad diet and lack of exercise is a growing problem here in the U.K.

Here in the US we are constantly being told that our increasing size is isolated to just the US. That all the people in Europe and Asia are not becoming obese like us and that we must be doing something terribly wrong...It is interesting to see that this issue is also happening in the U.K. I am going to go follow your link now, thanks for the information.

You are welcome Marsha. Obesity is a growing problem in the U.K. as well as the U.S.

I am a Type 2 diabetic, Naomi. I keep it under control by diet...I haven't been on medication for it for a few years now.

I've ignored the needs of my body, when I was young and even now, at times. There comes a time when, for continuing good health, the body needs to be cared for, as much as anything else.

Thank you for good post, Naomy!

I am absolutely agree with you!
I think we all should keep diet and be very careful with what we eat... I had my sugar problems when I was 18 and later when I was pregnant... must keep very strict diet during this time. But really that is not very difficult if you have strong motivation :).

Take care!
Svetlana

Hi Naomi! I found you through Blog Village. I just recently found out I have Type 2 diabetes, and actually, it has revolutionized my life. I am now truly motived to eat right and exercise. I only wish I had taken preventative measures, because like you, my father was diabetic, and several other relatives. However, it's never too late to turn things around, and with God's help, that's what I'm trying to do!

I enjoyed visiting your blog...very interesting!

This is a great post, Naomi. I don't know what it's going to take to get people to see how stupid we are being with our diets.

Hi Marion,

I think you are doing really well to be able to control your diabetes by diet. It must take a lot of willpower to be able to do that.

Nice to see you again Svet. Glad you enjoyed the post. I think the problem is with food, there is too much temptation now to eat junk food in our society.

Hi Cindy

I hope you enjoyed your visit here. I'm glad to hear that you have your diet under control now. Sometimes things happen for a reason in life Cindy. It's nice that something good has come out of your diabetes diagnosis and you are now more conscious of your diet and exercise.

Glad you enjoyed the post Sheila. Unfortunately people don't realise the harm they are doing to themselves with a bad diet.

Naomi,
A very important topic, that's for sure. Thank you for writing a post about it.

I, too, must remain aware of the fact that my mother has diabetes and that an aunt of hers also had it, so naturally I am at risk. It's good to be reminded. For this I thank you.

BFF,
Miss T

Wow I think you read and commented on my whole blog LOL. By the way it's your choice about memes as I have found I have to reject many or that is all I would be doing on my blogs.

Too much animal fat unfortunately. Diabetes Type 2 responds well to a Vegan diet and in many cases is cured. ref: pcrm.org

I think we all need a reminder re. watching our diet sometimes Miss T. I certainly do. Temptation to eat lots of cakes and sweets is great working in an office. Glad you enjoyed the post

I was making up for lost time Jackie as I haven't been over to your blogs for a while, even though we've chatted over at Spicy Page. I know what you mean about the memes. It's having time to do them all. I've heard a vegan diet is very good for diabetes.
