LONELY HEARTED BRITS TARGETED BY NIGERIAN GANGS

February is the month of love, with Valentines Day being celebrated on the 14th. It’s a great time for couples and those in relationships but it can also be a lonely time for people on their own. At a time when there are more single people than ever before, many lonely Brits are logging onto the net in a quest to find their perfect partner. Many people see it as the ideal way to meet someone but it is also one that is fraught with danger. It was revealed this week that Nigerian gangs are targeting lonely hearted Brits by logging onto internet dating sites, posing as widow(er)s and divorcees. The gang members use false identities and photos stolen from model agency sites to lure unsuspecting British men and women and defraud them out of thousands of pounds. They build up a relationship with unsuspecting “victims” asking them for loans which are never repaid. Scary! Undercover reporters from The Tonight tv programme joined police as they raided an internet café in Lagos, discovering details of several British victims, together with e-mails asking for money.

Like many other single women, I’m still hoping to meet my perfect partner one day. I’m also a great believer in the old adage that if you go out looking for love, you never find it. If it’s fated to happen it will. However for those of you who prefer to search for your perfect partner online. Take care and keep safe!

This is frightening. I guess those spam emails weren't working anymore. As a rule of thumb, anyone looking for money online is a panhandler and not a potential love. How sad for these very lonely people.

Yes it is very sad and frightening too Sandy. These people are the lowest of the low, preying on lonely and often vulnerable people.

That's very bad feeling when you realized that you was just used that destroys person's life and soul...

What I could tell just like in that old story when wind took away a loaf of bread from a starving person - there were people for whom needed this loaf of bread even more! So they need start thinking that they really helped someone, that they got some experience in life not just bad but they had good experience with there partners (even virtual) also ;).

Best wishes, Naomi!
