FAST LIFE BRITS HEADING FOR MELTDOWN

Like many people, I often complain that sometimes there just aren’t enough hours in a day to get everything done. It seems I’m not alone. According to the results of a study by Virgin Media, more and more Brits are living life at a crazy pace, with some spending ten minutes or less to eat their evening meal! The danger is that living life in the fast lane can have serious and often detrimental effects on our health. One psychologist commented that unless people slow down and realise there are only so many hours in a day to get everything done, there is a real danger they are heading for meltdown. That’s me told! Unfortunately it seems to be the same scenario the world over and not just in this country. Maybe it’s time we all learned to slow down a little bit and stop racing our way through life.

I wonder if there is an element of personality to all of this too? I mean that me, I am a very slow paced person as a stay at home mom and I like this lifestyle very much. But, most people would find my life so very dull and unstimulated they would go crazy. On the other hand if I have to do many things all in the same day I get a headache. I think perhaps people tend to gravitate toward the life that best suits them? Maybe?

Very good words, Naomi!

Kyle knows! He spent 25 years working 16-20 hours a day and the result was 6 heart attacks..

As for me I look at life like everything is a question of priority, you just choose what is more important for you in life. And that is not a necessary to have everything, just do and have enough to feel happiness of life. In Russia we still have saying "One day - one deal to do!" :)

Best wishes,
Svet and Kyle
PS Just remember that you are the main in life and decide what is really important for you because that is your life!

Sometimes I think it would be nice to be a stay at home Mum Marsha. Unfortunately I was never blessed with a family though. It's just one of those things. I think maybe that's the case Marsha and some people like a busier lifestyle than others.

Gosh Svet I hope Kyle is ok and enjoying better health now. After 6 heart attacks, he definitely needs a quieter more sedate lifestyle. You both do. "One day - one deal to do!" is a good way to look at life Svet. Getting your priorities right is very important. My Mum always says you have to look after yourself in this life because if you don't nobody else will and that's very true.

at the risk of leaving too many francophile comments on a brit blog - in most of france there is still a wonderfully relaxed attitude, two hour siestas in the middle of the day, time taken to be with family and shared meals, fantastic hospitality, shorter working hours, more opportunity to be involved in your local community etc etc. It's not all perfect, and their economy is struggling, but the attitude of the majority is that work is something you do between spending life with friends and family. A good way of doing things, I think.

Thank you, Naomi!

I think Kyle feels better now. As for pacing we are trying our best - but that is not very easy with Kyle. How astrologies tell your character is your fate. And Kyle (how he tells about himself) is type A person: if something must be done it must be done NOW. As for me I don't know what type of personality I am but for me it's very important to catch RIGHT TIME to do something what I planed, so I plan things to do but I could wait as much as I need to realize it at THE BEST MOMENT for it. How I feel the best moment I don't know but one day it starts getting all together and you understand that is it, that is the right moment! ;)

So since we are together I am trying to turn Kyle to my philosophy - what is not easy ;).

Thank you for your kind comment,
Svet

Feel free to leave as many Francophile comments as you like Alastair. I love France myself and the French lifestyle. I agree they have such a wonderfully relaxed attitude to life, compared to this country. We could certainly learn a lot from the French. France is definitely a place I would love to live. Despite the comments some Brits make, I've always found the French to be lovely hospitable people.

Glad to hear it Svet. I used to have the same attitude as Kyle but had a serious operation a few years ago and it forced me to reassess the way I lived my life. The doctors told me that it's important to listen to your body and not overdo things. Every so often I still have to tell myself that minor work worries are unimportant though. It is difficult sometimes living in such a fast paced world. I hope you manage to turn Kyle to your way of living and thinking. Good luck Svet! Best wishes to you both!

Sometimes I wonder if it's possible to slow down with my three very active children. Sometimes it doesn't help with the additional beckonings of phone calls, Radio, Television, Internet, and instant messages....sometimes I like to just shut it all off and enjoy the silence. We all need to slow down and feel the peace of patience. I'm still trying to figure out how to do that with my kids. :)

It must be very difficult for you with three children Alicia. Being a Mum is sometimes one of the hardest jobs in the world. You need more than 24 hours in a day to get everything done!

P.S. Thanks for stopping by Alicia. I hope you enjoyed your visit here.
