GPS PREFER PRIVATE CARE

According to the results of a recent survey, many British doctors lack confidence in the National Health Service and would prefer to be treated privately. Not surprising really. Health Secretary Patricia Hewitt astounded the British public this week by stating that she believes hospital bed closures are a sign of success. I'm sure the doctors and nursing staff who have lost their jobs through hospital closures wouldn't agree with her sentiments. Not sure what planet this woman is living on. Surely it stands to reason that if there are less hospital beds, patients are not going to receive the treatment they need in a hospital as there are no beds for them. Instead they will have to make do with treatment from community nurses who are overstretched already and cannot provide the standard of care available in a hospital. What an absolute shambles!

This sounds so much like the medical care in BC, it's astounding! And the community nurses here are unbelievably overstretched; the wait times for surgery, even very necessary to life ones, are unbelievably long!

I'm not sure what planet this woman lives on, either, but she could visit my neck of the woods to witness what lack of funding to Medicare really does! lol

I wouldn't call it a "success", by any stretch of even my imagination, lol!

I am totally disillusioned with the NHS....the last time we saw a community nurse was last October?...but then as she said....my husband was supposed to be dead by now!

It seems everybody in this country is disillusioned with the NHS. It just isn't working anymore. The whole system needs a major overhaul. Thanks for your visit Marion and Ruth.
