According to the results of a recent survey, many British doctors lack confidence in the National Health Service and would prefer to be treated privately. Not surprising really. Health Secretary Patricia Hewitt astounded the British public this week by stating that she believes hospital bed closures are a sign of success. I'm sure the doctors and nursing staff who have lost their jobs through hospital closures wouldn't agree with her sentiments. Not sure what planet this woman is living on. Surely it stands to reason that if there are less hospital beds, patients are not going to receive the treatment they need in a hospital as there are no beds for them. Instead they will have to make do with treatment from community nurses who are overstretched already and cannot provide the standard of care available in a hospital. What an absolute shambles!
