QUEEN LEADS TROOPING THE COLOUR CEREMONY

Still on the subject of birthdays, the Queen celebrated her official birthday this week with the Trooping the Colour ceremony. Thousands of flag waving spectators lined The Mall, cheering as The Queen and Prince Philip made the carriage ride from Buckingham Palace to the parade ground.

The Queen has already celebrated her birthday in April but historically the monarch has an official birthday in Summer as well. The tradition of two birthdays goes back to the time when if monarchs were born in Winter, the weather was deemed unsuitable for outdoor events so a second “birthday” had to be created for them. Unfortunately when this tradition came into being, they didn’t count on how unpredictable the British weather can be. Fortunately the grey overcast skies, which later turned to rain, did nothing to dampen either her Majesty’s spirits or those of the cheering crowds, as the Queen took the traditional salute in the Trooping the Colour parade at nearby Horse Guards. The Queen performed her duties with the usual poise and composure we have come to expect from her many years as our sovereign. Long may she reign over us!

Would you be able to put a word link to BLOG VILLAGE so that I may vote for you? For some reason I can not see the link you have on now...

Two birthdays - that would be nice, especially if you get two lots of presents as well! Ha ha! Glad you're enjoying the posts Janey and learning lots of new things about England.

I'm not sure what you mean by a word link but I'll have a look at this. If I can't work out what's going on, I'll enlist the help of Biz Whiz on Tips for Bloggers. Thanks for mentioning about this Janey.

Hi Naomi, thanks for the wonderful visit. You put a smile on my face. It's also lovely to read something nice about the Queen. We don't get to hear too much about her here. I lived in Holland when I was a child and our Queen Juliana's (sp?) birthday was the same as mine. I thought the parade was for me. Hehehe. It could happen. Hope you have a wonderful summer.

Hi Naomi! I am enjoying your posts!!

As far as the word link, I should have said plain text. If you go into your Account Administration in Blog Village, under "Get Your Link Code" is a plain text link. When I can see the I can see this link on the image links on some of the VILLAGERS blogs this one works so that I can vote for you!

I think I will talk with Biz Whiz about why I can't see the image links! Maybe he knows why!!!

Nice to see you again David.

Janey, I'll try and get the link you mentioned. Thanks for the tip.

Nice to see you again Rick. I always enjoy my visits to your blog. I didn't realise you used to live in England. It's a small world.
