In the news this week, it seems that the humble ice cream van is about to disappear from our streets. I have fond memories of buying icecream from an icecream van in my childhood years, something that today’s youngsters will never get to experience if the government has its way. It seems that local authorities are being given the power to ban icecream vans from trading near schools to encourage children to eat more healthily. In that case maybe they should ban corner shops and sweet shops too, because if there is no icecream van handy, kids will just head there and buy something even more unhealthy instead! This comes in a week when the “Just One Cornetto” song was voted the nation’s favourite advertising jingle.
