SCHOOL HOURS TO CHANGE

Well done to the government for realising that working parents need schools to open earlier and stay open for longer. Plans are now being put in place for schools to open at 8.00am and remain open until 6.00pm. In a country where we have increasing numbers of “latch key” children, who have to go home and fend for themselves until their parents arrive home from work, this is great news. At last the government has got something right for a change. Let’s just hope that they put their money where their mouth is and allow schools enough funding to hire extra teaching staff to cope with the extended hours of opening.
